Wedding Flowers at Cliveden House
Cliveden House is a spectacular setting, and when you're working with a space this grand, the flowers need to work with it rather than compete with it.
For me, that means thinking about impact, scale and atmosphere. Small arrangements dotted around a room can easily get lost against Cliveden's opulent interiors, so I tend to favour fewer, more considered designs that have presence. A loose, wildflower-style approach isn't necessarily the natural fit for a venue this formal, but that doesn't mean you can't have movement, texture and seasonality.
Strong colour palettes work particularly well here. Soft whites and greens can feel elegant and understated, while deeper shades such as burgundy, peach and plum can create a much more dramatic atmosphere.
The scale of the rooms is also something to embrace. Tall floral designs can make the most of the height, while large dining tables give plenty of opportunity for beautiful, immersive tablescapes. Even for a more intimate wedding, you can create real impact without needing to fill every corner.
Make your flowers work throughout the day
With a venue as beautiful as Cliveden, it's worth thinking carefully about where your flowers will have the greatest impact. Getting married at Cliveden requires a significant investment, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get the most from your flowers. Repurposing designs from the ceremony into the reception is a sensible way to do this.
Rather than creating separate flowers for every part of the day, we can move and redesign pieces as the celebrations progress, allowing you to enjoy them in more than one setting.
Ultimately, you're choosing Cliveden for a reason. The rooms already have an incredible sense of character, so your flowers don't need to disguise or compete with that. Instead, they should add something that feels personal to you, helping to create the mood and atmosphere you want your guests to experience.
A few Cliveden weddings
I've had the pleasure of creating flowers for two intimate weddings at Cliveden, and each one has shown how differently the spaces can be styled.
For one summer wedding, light and airy white flowers worked beautifully in the Boudoir dining room. Long tables were dressed with generous floral runners, creating impact across the length of the room and making the most of the intimate setting. The same floral designs were first used in the ceremony room before being reworked for the tables, giving the flowers a second life throughout the day.
For a Christmas wedding, we used a completely different colour palette. Deep burgundies and warm peach tones brought richness and depth to the setting, creating a luxurious winter feel without becoming overly 'Christmassy'. A broken arch framed the couple against the window, drawing attention to the architecture and making the most of the beautiful backdrop. Meadowscapes lined the aisle before being reduced in height and reworked for the long dining table, alongside candles to create a sense of indulgence and romance. Both weddings were relatively intimate, but neither needed to feel small.
At Cliveden, thoughtful scale and strong design can make even a smaller celebration feel incredibly special.
